…Will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly.
Luke 18:7, 8
Have you given up on prayer? I’m guessing most of you are in the habit of saying some sort of prayer before a meal, and if you have small children, you probably pray with them before bedtime. But other than that, have you given up on prayer?
If you have, you wouldn’t be alone. After all, prayer can be discouraging! How many times have you prayed to our God hoping he would answer you in a particular way within a specific timeframe only to find that he didn’t answer as you wanted? And it wasn’t when you hoped. If you’re familiar with that scenario—I’m guessing most of you are—you know the temptation is to give up. You know the temptation is to think, “God doesn’t care about me.” “God must not have heard me.” “Why do I even bother…?”
If that’s you, here’s some encouragement to make regular prayer a part of your life again. Your God loves you so much that he came to this world and took upon himself the punishment you deserve on account of your sin. Why? Simply because he didn’t want to punish you! Your God chose to save you from your sin! When you were baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, your God put his name on you. You are his own dear child!
And guess what? He wants to hear from you. No—better yet—he LOVES to hear from you! Sure, that means he loves to hear you thank him for the food you’re about to eat and it means he loves to hear from you and your children before they go to bed each night. But don’t let that be the only time he hears from you. When times are hard…pray. Then pray again. And then again! When times are good…pray. Then pray again. And then again! The God who saved you is listening!
Blessings on your weekend!
