Everybody has one in their life. The one who we can talk to no matter what. When life is hard, they listen for hours. They also love hearing when things are going well. There’s nothing like a great conversation with them. You know they’ll always be there and they’ll always listen because they love you.
Who am I talking about? Your heavenly father! We get to enjoy that relationship with God through prayer. Prayer is a wonderful blessing. We get to speak with our heavenly Father and to ask for the things we need. We get to say thank you for all the blessings He has given us.
Prayer is a direct line to God who has power over everything. It’s a direct line to Jesus, who died in our place. We get to talk to the God who takes care of us and who shows just how much he loves us in His Word.
If all of that is true, then why we do treat prayer the way we do? We push prayer aside all the time. We speak words but don’t really mean what we say. We make prayer about all the things we want and we give up when we don’t get them. When we take an honest look at our prayer lives it’s easy to see we don’t know how to pray.
That’s why we call out with one of Jesus’ disciples and say, “Lord, teach me how to pray!”
We hope you can join us for worship this Sunday at Living Shepherd! We’ll listen as our Savior teaches all of us how we should pray.
